 | Jun. 12, 2007 | bmolony | Flew it again this time in FSX and the Baron. It remains a very nice short flight in beautiful, heavily mountainous scenery. While the safe approach is still Rwy 34 via a 180 over the lake, Rwy 16 is still very flyable. The runway is at 2500' MSL. At first I thought maybe an FL035 approach through the valley from northwest of the field was necessary. I made that one more or less successfully. But I tried it again and this time found that a direct approach from around FL050 was quite a bit safer. Regardless, you need to plan on a full flaps, idle throttle glide threading a needle between some trees near the end of the rwy and then hit the brakes immediately on touchdown in order to stop before running into the lake. A very nice challenge. Loved it! Thanks! | | Aug. 14, 2005 | Spiderblog | Hammering it over the lake at 150 knots as I was using FSPassengers and didn't want to be late. I like the flight though. Made a sweet landing and my passengers thought the same! | | Mar. 03, 2005 | Hardybaby | Very good !! It´s the beautiful flight with a "Beaver" | | Feb. 28, 2005 | sobor | Pretty trip. At 5000' you have to miss the mountains approach to the west gives a challenging approach. Flew in a chipmunk. | | Feb. 28, 2005 | bmolony | Very nice flight. Beautiful scenery in winter! The Piper Cub is probably the better choice. And doing the 180 on approach really not as much fun--too easy to come in over the lake. The Rny 16 approach is much more challenging. Just have to make sure the wheels don't hit those last trees before touchdown! :) Thanks! I enjoyed it! |
