Duration:15 minutes, gate to gate
Flight description:Flight is from 6S9 (Stehekin State) to W12 (Lost River Resort). Take off on Rwy 31, climbing to 6000 take your first right. Find your way through the valleys using GPS to W12. Plan your descent carefully, you won't see Rwy 29 until short final. Alternate flight plan is to climb to 9500 going over the mountains with a steep decent into the valley for landing.
Special conditions:For an additional challenge try, 'stormy weather' but increase clouds to overcast. 9500 will put you just on top of the clouds. Descend into the valley using your GPS to guide you. Expect a crosswind at W12.

Jul. 17, 2010gravelpitFlew this in the FSX default Mooney and it was great. I agree about the landing needing full flaps and right at stall speed. I think I will fly it again n the Aerosoft DHC-6...goodtimes!
Thanks for the flight plane.
Dec. 10, 2009bmolonyI agree! An excellent flight with superb scenery enroute. I flew the reverse of this route several years ago in FS9. This time I was in the FSX Baron using real world weather. But that could easily be a bad choice. This area is known for lots of fog and heavy overcast and that is not the best of conditions for such tight mountain passes! Fortunately it was mostly clear. The trip begins at the headwaters of Lake Chelan, a gorgeous, 50 mile long, and very narrow lake. The departure field, 6S9, is extremely sparse as it is in the real world--essentially a dirt strip classic bush field. Immediately begin a gradual climb—maybe 250 fpm—to 6000' to assure clearance near the midpoint of the flight. The route through the mountain passes is by far the better choice even it if is sort of like a maze. The best I found was first NW down the valley and then a right at Coon Lake and another immediate right towards Waddell Lake. At the end of that valley make a hard left. You will then see two possible valleys to the right--take the SECOND valley and follow the mountain road over the high point in the route at Liberty Bell mountain. Take an immediate left and begin your gradual descent down the long valley that gradually circles right. At the end of that long valley, be down below 3000' and make a hard, almost 180 degree turn to the left. W12 should come into view with you on short final. You will need full flaps and barely above stall speed to barely clear the last trees, cut throttle to zero, and drop sharply to the grass field. Hit the brakes immediately or you will overrun the end of the short runway. W12 is quite well equipped for a mountain grass strip. A short flight full of challenges and gorgeous scenery along the way. Hard to beat that combination! THANKS!
Jun. 17, 2009alex_jgreat flight with good scenery I flew it with the cessna 172 and had a bit of trouble getting over the mountains if I were to do it again i would definately take the valleys round to W12.
