 | Jul. 17, 2010 | gravelpit | I should have taken a helicopter! That was tough the first time. | | Jun. 01, 2010 | amahran | Landed once with a cessna caravan. To stop when landing in Courchevel, i needed to start skidding halfway down the runways. Really, microsoft needs to start caring for these sorts of details, especially the proportionality between the size of the plane and a tree, cause a shorter tree might have helped me land the plane. Also, airports built with significantly steeply sloped runways need to be taken into consideration, like Courchevel and Telluride (in reality, there is a "gap" in the middle of the runway")
Microsoft needs to watch out for these details. | | Jan. 04, 2010 | itrobb | I've always loved LFLJ. | | Dec. 18, 2009 | Minisherl | Flew this in a beechcraft kingair which was to powerful. I flew the runway 5 approach and even with the engines off still over shot the runway. Approach was challenging but I manger to fly in from the side of the trees, make a sharp turn and level off for an abrupt and rough landing. Over all a great flight. | | Oct. 08, 2008 | nonnone | 5 | | Dec. 14, 2007 | Jocelino | Please anyone cut that trees ;). I tried in Carenado Piper Dakota, not the best plane to do this, but do the job.I finish in the grass and need to use a bit of brake, hehehe. | | Nov. 02, 2009 | Phil Corso | Bon..Tres Bon! | | May. 24, 2006 | DonOrr | I am a UK Pilot(300+ hrs) and have been to Courchevel on Ski Holiday, by land. The airfield as a previous reviewer mentioned, has a 18.5 slope on RWY 23 then flattens out at the top. In the real world you can only land on 23 and takeoff from 05, and only after obtaining a check ride certificate from instructor at field. I wouldn't even attempt it without that, and the trees will have to be removed from FS before I try it in Sim. I know it is only a game but hey we should try and make it as real as possible.
I am a novice with regard to FS9 but am learning fast, I will try and produce an exclude file for those trees. It would be nice if a scenery designer could produce a more accurate layout for Courchevel although I don't think it's possible to get gradients in FS9. There is a restaurant just above what would be the threshold of 05 which negates its use in the real world.
Remember "You get old pilots and you get bold pilots but never old bold pilots". You also need to remember this field is at 6420 ft and you must use a Short TakeOff and Landing Aircraft and remember to lean the mixture correctly to get full power.
I've an exclude file for trees at end of Rwy 05, produced using ExcBuilder to remove objects, written by David "Opa" Marshall of FS9 Tips & Tricks, all available from AVSIM. Well worth a look.
If any one wants my version called 'Execlude_LFLJ_Trees05.bgl'
Email me and I'll send it to u. | | Sep. 12, 2005 | jlloyd | What a great flight, I took out the Carenado 182RG and landed on 23 by going to the right on final keeping it slow. Great flight though. | | Aug. 14, 2005 | Spiderblog | It's a good challenge. Considering I've flown into courchevel for real (not personally though) I knew how to take it but it's a nice flight and what you see is what it really is although flight sim very annoyingly missed the 18.5% gradient which would of made everything so much easier in and out! | | Aug. 11, 2005 | lozmck1 | Amazing Flight!!!!!!!!!!! Did it in the Just Flight Cessna 152, Incredible approach to runway 03, entered left hand circuit and went in for my first landing...had to go around, I was too high and too fast...made it second time though ;-) Awesome flight!!!!!! | | Apr. 09, 2005 | Simonft | Try Doing it backward. Need something with ALOT of Power!!! | | Jan. 10, 2005 | G.Specht | The scenery was excellent by MSFS standards. My first attempt was with the Caravan - disaster. Then tried the 172 and was able to drop down with a circular descent and landed on RW 23 (MSFS shows only RW 5). It was surprising to find such good buildings and facilities provided by MS. | | Dec. 26, 2004 | bmolony | WOW! Wish I could say I nailed it on the first pass! :) No way. The trees for 23 make it impossible. I finally made a fair landing (walk away from it type landing) to 5 in the Baron but only by reducing to absolute min airspeed well before the last mountain, cutting throttle to 0 and pulling back on the yoke to a full stall immediately before topping that last hill. That required a LOT of luck for a blind guess because I could not see over the nose. Wonderful challenge! Thanks! | | Dec. 24, 2004 | Jeffturner | This trip is INSANE... But, I LOVED it... The comments about the saw for the trees is absolutley accurate and the approach to runway 5 is impossible... THANK YOU! | | Nov. 28, 2004 | XxATOLxX | This is fun :) Kai Tak style approach for prop planes. | | Nov. 15, 2004 | killian | This is insane. Be sure to pack a chainsaw for those trees. I had to make 3 go arounds before I could make it. If you do attempt it, make sure your plane has enough horsepower to climb out or you will will regret it. If you can't make it, better pull up early!!!! | | Nov. 14, 2004 | dlientz | I made it! I flew the Cessna 172 and landed the RW 23. Tried two other times and crashed. This was a challenging mission to accomplish | | Aug. 31, 2004 | cavans | this is a very challenging landing,Sadly after 3 circuits I still did not make it....Alan | | Aug. 29, 2004 | Jürgen | horror is the only name for this runway, of course i crashed, forget runway 5, forget runway 23, the world is going mad , i lose my head.... |
